Torrens Moliner

logo-Moliner.jpgThis, a family winery next to Sant Sadurní d´Anoia in the province of Barcelona, is located in Alt Penedès – the capital of cava. It is a most remarkable wine region for the elaboration of great cavas. The winery is surrounded by the family's holdings.

With more than 100 years of making wine in a small traditional cellar,  the family looks forward keeping in mind the skill and craft inherited from their ancestors. Sustainable viticulture, local and autochthonous varieties, manual harvest and a careful elaboration in conjunction with the traditional method allows for cava's of character and quality – modern, fresh and elegant.

Alt Penedès or Penedès Superior is the highest area, in the interior and on the mountain. Vines are located above 800 meters of altitude on the edges of the central plateau, with low production and quality in mind. Soils have rich mineral diversity and are abundant in phosphorus, low in potassium with an average of twenty percent limestone. The land is sandy, clayey and permeable which retains rain water. The soil is poor in organic matter.

Typical Mediterranean weather permeates. Alt Penedès brings weather conditions, where frosts are frequent and the contrast between daily maximum temperature and minimum is greater than other areas.

The objective is to not focus on mass production or to compete with larger wineries.

Current production is up to 95,000 bottles, however full capacity of the winery is just under 300,000 bottles. The family owns 12 hectares and control another 13 of xarel·Lo, Macabeo and Parellada and some Chardonnay.
