Domaine des Ratelles
Domaines Vinet is a family winery in the Loire Valley, near the city of Nantes and not far from the shores of the Atlantic ocean. Domaines Vinet began in 1948 with 4 hectares and the passion of Gustave Vinet. It has grown bit by bit; his children Daniel and Gérard eventually continued the family tradition, and today the estate is owned and run by husband and wife team Gérard and Laurence Vinet.
The domaine now comprises around 55 hectares of prime Muscadet vineyards in the heart of Sèvre-et-Maine. One of the villages around which the Vinet vineyards are based, La Haye Fouassière, is ground zero for the wines of Muscadet, as well as one of the Muscadet Cru Communal appellations. The original Vinet vineyard has grown from modest beginnings into a several stand-alone domaines, including Domaine des Ratelles and Clos de la Houssaie.
With the influence of the Atlantic, the harvest generally begins in early September. Among the best plots here, made up of old vines, are those that provide grapes for Les Ratelles, but across the range the accent here is on very classic, mineral Muscadet with good fruit and firm structure.
The family's working philosophy is based on the idea of terroir. The viticultural methods used for each parcel are adapted according to differences in the soil. Thus, each of the wines develops its own character. All wines are harvested, vinified, and bottled with great respect for the environment as well as tradition. The oceanic climate, and this superb land, make this place ideal for the production of fresh, well-balanced, aromatic, and long-aging Muscadets.
