Pinot Bianco "Dellago"

Dellago.jpgWinery: Cantina Bolzano / Santa Magdalena
Region:
Alto Adige
Locale:
Bolzano, Italy
Appellation: Alto Adige
Designation: DOC

In a few words: This is truly one of Italy's finest Pinot Biancos. But don't take Joe's word for it. Multiple times it has received the coveted Tre Bicchieri award from Gambero Rosso.

Site: From a single vineyard of fantastic Pinot Bianco 450 m up the slope of the western side of the Adige Valley (morning sun). Porphyry, sand and gravel. This vineyard selection represents the best interaction of grape variety, soil properties and microclimate.

Grapes: 100% Pinot Bianco

Fermentation and Aging: Temperature controlled stainless steel until spring of the year following the vintage with a small portion (about 15%) maturing for 6 months in seasoned barrique.

Notes: It's really rare to find a Pinot Bianco that offers such age worthiness. Keep this for a few years and you'll be rewarded with even more complexity. A brilliant straw yellow with hints of green; scents of apples, pear and white peaches, melon, pineapple and pomaceous fruit. Elegantly fruity and powerful. Crisp, showing a pleasant acidity and rich mouthfeel. Enjoy as an aperitif or with asparagus, light fish or pasta dishes. Pairs excellently with poultry and vegetarian dishes.
