Bourgueil "Igoranda"

gambier-igoranda.jpegWinery: Domaine Des Ouches
Region:
Loire (Loire Valley)
Locale: Ingrandes de Touraine, Bourgueil
Appellation:  Bourgueil
Designation: AOC

In a few words: Elegant and refined.

Site: The family owns about 17 hectares, farmed organically and mainly calcarious, stony soils. This wine comes from a selection of their various parcels and is the basic Bourgueil.

Grapes: 100% Cabernet Franc

Fermentation and Aging: Vinified in stainless steel deposits, about 15 days on the skins. Elaborated in foudre for about a year.

Notes: The name comes from the ancient name for Ingrande, which happens to be the name of their town plus about 3 other villages in the area. The word meant “door” years ago and so is one of several portals to nearby Anjou. Production is about 30K bottles in an average vintage. A dark cherry color, with a generous and intense nose of red fruits and herbs. Beautiful mature fruit taste, rich and full-bodied, with some pepper notes. Enjoy this wine with cold cuts or poultry.
