Region:
Toscana (Tuscany)
Locale:
Castelnuovo dell'Abate, Italy
Appellation: Brunello di Montalcino
Designation: DOCG

Site: Grown organically in the estate vineyards in Castelnuovo dell’Abate in the southeastern section of Montalcino near the abbey of Sant’Antimo; 365 m above the sea level. Limestone soils rich with stony galestro (marl) substrate. Mild winters, hot summers, rainy and humid springtimes and autumns in these limestone and rocky lands create very fragrant wines with intense colors and pleasant acidity and tannins.

Grapes: 100% Sangiovese

The vines, 35-40 years old, are spur pruned. Grapes are hand harvested.

Fermentation and Aging: After a careful selection and harvesting of the grapes, fermentation begins. Macerated 18-21 days in open top fermenters with indigenous yeasts, followed by malolactic fermentation. Matured for 3 years in 3,000 and 5,000 liter botti (large French oak barrels).

Notes: With purity and power, balance and structure, Flavio’s Brunelli are definitely built for the long haul. Intense bouquets of blackberry and blueberry, with hints of chocolate, tobacco and balsamic. Harmonious and elegant with powerful tannins. Pair with red meat, game and cheese.

Production ranges from 30,000 bottles to 60,000, depending on vintage; he’s able to produce more Brunello (and less Rosso) in great vintages since his fruit is of higher overall quality. This means that in more difficult vintages, less Brunello is produced but of still very good quality.

Available in two sizes: 750ml and magnum.
