i_custodi-etna_rosso_aetneus-label.jpgWinery: I Custodi
Region:
Sicilia (Sicily)
Locale:
Passopisciaro, (Sicilia) Italy
Appellation: Etna Rosso
Designation: DOC

Site: Grown on the northern slopes of Mt. Etna (Castiglione di Sicilia), at 750 m, in terraces. Bush trained with 9.000 plants per hectare. Soil is sandy, volcanic, very rich in minerals, with subacid reaction. Typical high-hill climate, considerable temperature extremes between day and night.

Grapes: Nerello Mascalese (80%), Nerello Cappuccio (20%)

Fermentation and Aging: Grapes are hand harvested after the beginning of October. The grapes are harvested and selected, brought to the winery in shallow crates, where they are crushed after destemming about 80% of the clusters. Maceration for 12 days in steel vats. Malolactic fermentation in small barrels. Aged in used and semi-used barriques for at least 24 months

Notes: The wine is ruby red in color. The aroma is ethereal and intense with hints of ripe fruit and tobacco. This is an elegant, harmonic wine with a considerably long aftertaste, rightly tannic.

Mt. Etna regenerates itself constantly, and generates new life and new culture: the frequent eruptions cause the landscape to be ever-changing, and the same power drives the work of the people who persevere in living on the Muntagna.
