Region: Slovenian Collio (Brda), Friuli
Locale:
Ceglo
Appellation: Goriška Brda
Designation: ZPG

Site: From the Zegla, Rusic, and Plešivo vineyards, at altitudes from 120-250 meters, facing SW. Grapevines 15-32 years of age. Soils are classic stony calcareous marl, locally called opoka.

Grapes: 100% Pinot Grigio

Vinification and Aging: Maceration for 12 hours, fermentation in stainless steel. Aged in stainless steel tanks for 8 months on the fine lees.

Notes: As you can imagine, a Pinot Grigio from Marjan Simčič is not your grandmother’s Pinot Grigio. The notes of copper give away the skin contact, and the nose is intensely complex with beautiful floral notes. A full bodied wine, with notes of ripe apricots and melon, and balance between alcohol and acid. Pairs with cold antipasti, all kinds of fish, with pasta alla primavera, and with asian cuisines like Thai and Japanese. About 9,200 bottles produced.
