Site: Vigna San Lorenzo extends for about 2,5 hectares along the road of the same name. This vineyard most influenced by the sea just 700 metres away. It is the seaside of Marzamemi, in the southeasternmost corner of Sicily in the Val di Noto (Siracusa) at about 10 metres above sea level. The climate in this area, further south than Tunis, is temperate-hot Mediterranean. The plant density is 7000 vines per hectare grown ad alberello. The more than 40 year-old vines yield no more than 40 quintals per hectare.

Grapes: “Calavirisi” (Nero d'Avola) cultivated 100% by alberello (7000 vines per hectare)

Fermentation and Aging: The grapes harvested in the second half of September are vinified into red with a long maceration with the skins. After the malolactic fermentation, the wine is decanted into small 225 liter barrels where it is left to age for 18 months. It is then aged in bottles for several months before release.

Notes: Ruby red, with intense, deep violet reflections. This wine has a fruity, harmonious flavor with a lingering finish.

Vintage: 2008
