Chateau de l'Aiguillette – Mouzillon, Muscadet-Sèvre et Maine, France
Crisp, minerally, and imminently drinkable…we love this beautiful little wine from third generation growers Patrice and Vincent Hervouet. Their 35 hectares are farmed “in the good spirit” of sustainable/organic farming. Their terroir experiences the maritime influences typical of this area due to the close proximity of the Atlantic Ocean, and the wines display perhaps a certain tangy saltiness that makes them an ideal match with fresh oysters and other seafood. Winters can be harsh in this relatively northern region, and the sandy-gravelly soils are rich in magnesium and potassium and drain extremely well, a good thing for the area experiences a great deal of rainfall. Approximately 1/3 of the vines are older than 50 years, and an old vines cuvée is produced from these plots, which we will undoubtedly import in the future.
