The portfolio strikes the correct balance of great producers – who offer wines of such stature and standing as has earned them praise both domestically and internationally, over many years – along with many honest wines of virtuous price/quality ratio: something for all wine lovers, you see.
We have been fortunate in being able to attract a great many wineries with real international prestige, but most are first and foremost “heroes at home” in the sense that their primary market is a domestic market, within their own region and country of origin. We sell Italian wines that real Italians drink every day, and French wines that are the everyday beverages of the French. This is important in that our goal is to sell real wines, not beverages manufactured for some market research control group.
Our wineries tend to be small, grower-oriented, family affairs – farmers. Often the growers utilize sustainable or organic viticulture, not because it is the latest fashion, but rather because that is how the best wine is often made – with respect for the living soil. As Guido Guardigli says, “my grand-daughter must live here someday!” The extra care given the land is a reflection of the understanding of our growers for the relationships between people, their land, and the products derived from it. The results show in the bottle, over and over again.
