Opoka_small.jpgWinery: Simčič Marjan
Region:
Slovenian Collio (Brda), Friuli
Locale:
Ceglo

Site: Medana Jama (0.2 ha), Jordano (0.3 ha) and Breg (0.1 ha). Altitude 200-250 meters. Vine age from 38--58 yrs. Calcareous marl. NW exposition.

Grapes: 100% Ribolla Gialla, (Rebula), harvested at full ripeness at the end of September.

Vinification and Aging: The grapes are macerated for 36hrs in wooden vats (tino) where fermentation starts with its own yeast. Then the juice is racked to wooden barriques and tonneaux (225 and 500L, Allier oak, 50% new) where it finishes its alcoholic fermentation. Partial malolactic fermentation. Elevage is in 500L tonneaux, 22 months, then 18 months of bottle age before release to market.

Notes: 2700 bottles produced. Truly one of the great examples of mineral, structured, terroir-driven Ribolla Gialla. The wine will improve in the cellar over many years. Delicious with fish dishes, shellfish, crudo, fish stews.
